‘O Hawai‘i ke kahua o ka ho‘ona‘auao
Hawai‘i is the foundation of our learning.
 – Office of Hawaiian Education (OHE)

Malama Ko`olaupoko, Malama Honua afterschool program offers 'Åina based activities that take place mostly on weekends, and include visits to  Waikalua loko I'a, Luluku Farms, Maunawili Valley and the Limu Hui in Waimanalo.

Did you know that Olomana School started during the Hawaiian Kingdom?

In 1864, King Kamehameha V created the Keoneula Industrial and Reformatory School to care, train and educate helpless and neglected youth and reform juvenile offenders. Today,  Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility, Kapolei Judicial Facility and Home Maluhia students all fall under Olomana School.

Olomana School is located in Kawailoa, which is on the slopes of Olomana. Students come from Kailua, Waimanalo and King Intermediate as well as from Kailua, Kalaheo and Castle High School. Due to the small campus and classrooms, students flourish while at Olomana School with hands-on, project based lessons and caring and supportive teachers.

Ten students are participating in a program called Ola Hou and they are working on a book called Ko`olaupoko: Past, Present and Future. They will be interviewing community members and organizations that have made a difference in the ahupua'a of Ko`olaupoko.

Parent Engagement in Punalu’u. Parents and guests shared their stories about growing up, and explored how different growing up for today's youth.

Students participating in our programs were once identified as at risk of possibly dropping out of school, or were non-attenders. Now, they are highly engaged in authentic cultural activities and are preparing to be leaders for the next generation of learners. Their parents could not be happier.

-  Dr. Lisa DeLong
Principal, Olomana School
