Modular PD Series

UHAU HUMU PILINA

A modular PD series that guides school teams in enhancing social-emotional learning programs through place-based, culturally grounded practices rooted in Nā Hopena Aʻo and the unique context of Hawaiʻi.

Participants will assess their current SEL programs through a gap analysis and enhance them using a framework grounded in Nã Hopena A’o, ensuring SEL is contextualized within place, culture, language, and community.

Session 1: Grounding SEL in Place, Culture, Community

This session immerses participants in the key principles of the ‘Uhau Humu Pilina Framework by engaging them in storytelling, movement, and collective meaning-making-mirroring the framework’s emphasis on place, culture, language, and community.

Session 2:Strengthening SEL – Reflect & Act

This session immerses participants in deep reflection, collective dialogue, and action planning, mirroring the iterative and relational process of the ‘Uhau Humu Pilina Framework as they assess their SEL programs.

Session 3: Infusing the Uhau Humu Pilina framework

This session grounds participants in reflection, collective responsibility, and action, reinforcing how ‘Uhau Humu Pilina strengthens school culture while ensuring their commitment to lasting change.

Session 4: Bringing Protocols to Life

This session grounds operationalizing Wehena and Huaka’i to support SEL and ‘āina-based learning.
