The Next 200
Be the ancestor your descendants will thank. Somewhere along the way we drifted from the sources of our strength: the mountains, the valleys, the reefs that sustain us. Now we face a choice about the next 200 years. Here are the stories of people finding their way back and leading the charge.
A framework for learning.
The Hawaiʻi Department of Educationʻs Nā Hopena A‘o (HĀ) is a framework to develop the skills, behaviors and dispositions that are reminiscent of Hawaiʻi’s unique context, and to honor the qualities and values of the indigenous language and culture of Hawaiʻi. Our Mālama and Lokahi 21st Century Programs offer hundreds of Hā based videos for students and their families.

Ka Waihona a Ke Aloha Directory
Ka Waihona A Ke Aloha Ka Papahana Hoʻoheno Mele is an interactive resource center for the promotion, preservation and perpetuation of mele and mele practitioners. The mākia (motto) for Ka Waihona A Ke Aloha is “Ho‘oheno ka puana i lohe ‘ia,” “Cherished is the refrain that has been heard,” or “Cherished is the refrain so let it be heard.” Both translations provide the understanding that Ka Waihona A Ke Aloha was established to preserve and care for the many wonderful pearls of mele “that have been heard,” and to further perpetuate them “so that it be heard.” Therefore, to increase accessibility to this knowledge, the preservation, perpetuation, and the dissemination of our peoples’ puana is the primary focus.
Aloha Authentic
Aloha Authentic is a platform to share and celebrate Native Hawaiian culture and history. It showcases local artisans, cultural practitioners, kūpuna (elders) and community members whose work helps to tell our story through their own ways. All of our efforts are motivated by preserving and promoting the true concept of aloha. This means that whatever we do, from creating products and services to hosting community events; Aloha is central to how we conduct ourselves, how we relate to others, and how we represent Hawaiʻi.
